Yeah. It’s not my favorite. Still, most people can talk and listen faster than than a stenographer can type. There’s also the added layer of nonverbal information in oral communication that isn’t in text. Calls are still more effective for most matters that are both urgent and important. I don’t like them, but I’ll resort to them if I need to.

I had this terrible dream that I went to a movie theater and had to watch ads in the middle and more right before the end of the film. And they told me if I wanted to skip the ads I would have to pay 50% more for my already $20 ticket.

Remember when movies were $5 for matinee or sometimes one day in the week was $5. ? Anyone ?

    It wasn’t that long ago.

I used to go to the movies like 1x or 2x a month. Now it’s literally been years. I think last time was the first new dune movie.

    Sad.

We’re not far off really. I’d wager more people are using things like WhatsApp or Discord for calls, and there are ads baked into those.

Network effect. And most people’s tolerance for ads is crazy high.

So those people can chat with me through a Matrix bridge while I wear my hazmat suit.

Yeah but it’s exactly that tolerance that I don’t understand – on an emotional level.

Sure I can rationally construct reasons for why this has developed in this way and why people got used to it, but I can’t get entirely get rid of this initial “how can the third ad in 20 minutes of video not make you furious?” reaction.

I can only assume it’s a frog in a pot of boiling water type situation for people that haven’t just used ad-blockers since their creation.

Also a lot of people just pay for premium to remove them instead.
