I recently distro hopped from Pop OS Cosmic to Fedora KDE Plasma; omg I love it. There are very small bugs, but i really like that they have a feature where you can self report them to fedora. But overall, everything about this distro is already running better on my laptop and not chewing up my battery, and it just works.
Fedora really outdid themselves with these customizations, like holy crap.
I’m waiting for Fedora 45, or the Asha release as I call it.
I saw that! Omg can i experience 44 first, i just got here. 🤣🤣
I suspect that most of the stuff you’re impressed with is from KDE, not Fedora’s doing.

KDE Plasma is fantastic, I just recently installed CachyOS on my machine and fell in love with KDE. It’s improved a LOT since the last time I’d experimented with Linux.
CachyOS is just amazing. Got my grandma’s running it after her laptop wouldnt update to win 10
I agree, I’m surprised at how well CachyOS runs on this Chromebook of mine, even with all the bells and whistles added!
I have a cat in my taskbar who sleeps when my CPU is idle, and runs faster when it speeds up. Linux is fucking amazing.
Can KDE in Fedora do that? 👀 I would like to know too 👀👀👀
Think I found the repo; you’d just need to have the appropriate packages & build it https://github.com/fioncat/kde-runcat
Not currently at computer so can’t make a list of commands, but someone else might be able to (or AI if you trust it)
Wherewherewhere Gimmiegimmiegimmie
It’s called RunCat, I found it in the built-in widget finder in KDE Plasma. It’s got several different animations to select from, including a dog, a slime, and two rabbits with little mallets making mochi.
Hopped from Windows 10 to Bazzite about 6 weeks ago. Didn’t really know anything about desktop environments so chose KDE Plasma as it was the default option. Didn’t regret it for a second. The time of Linux gaming is now (as long as you don’t play any Riot games or other kernel level anti-cheats that didn’t bother to adapt to Linux).
I did the same thing but it was from Windows 11 to Pop OS Cosmic(not a good choice for a beginner Linux user) 😅😅 and now Fedora.
I honestly should’ve explored Fedora KDE Plasma first, with how it works its very friendly like Windows but with crazy freedom to customize. I was so frustrated with PopOS and didnt realize how extremely buggy it was until i started doing research.
Now ive seen Yt videos about Bazzite, how does running games on that differ that Fedora? I have Steam but i guess if i wanna go extreme, thats where Bazzite comes in?
Bazzite is Fedora-based, so shouldn’t be functionally different. It just comes with Steam, Protontricks and a bunch of other gaming utilities pre-installed and easy to set up. And it’s atomic, so in theory should be easy to roll back if an update messes up something (which I haven’t had to do yet).
Agree on Plasma’s customisation, there’s been multiple times where I looked up how to do some stuff I’ve done on Win10 with Power Toys or 3rd party software only to discover it’s a built in thing (like window tiling).
Was really excited to try KDE this friday. Apparently some unholy combination of GPU and screen caused it to flicker when I moved the mouse. Oh well…
If your talking about KDE on Fedora i know some security and system updates have recently been released… or what distro are you using?
Arch. It’s on a work computer and reinstalling and picking something else instead of troubleshooting was the faster option. I needed to get stuff done with the computer.
I’ll probably try it on my home computer at some point. But that is left for another day.
