It’s normal in the UK. Usually someone in the shop needs to see you, then they activate the pump, you pump what you need, then go in and pay. Some stations do have the option to pay at the pump, or via an app, but I’ve never seen one where you can’t pay afterwards.

I find a pinch of salt helps to bring out the flavour and accentuates the roast. It’s got to be crunchy though.
It’s ok to admit you don’t like peanut butter. Next you’re going to tell us you only eat the smooth stuff, aren’t you? 🤔
I was going to join those commenting that that seems like a lot, but then I thought about how I nake peanut butter sandwiches. You’ve really got to trowel it on, or what’s the point, right?
I like your pitch, I’ll give you $1.50 for 30%, but the name has to be “stror” to hit the “likes apps ending in r” demographic.
You know you can be sociable without giving them details? “Yeah, I’ll be seeing family”, “Got some jobs around the house that need doing”, or even “nah, just taking it easy this time”. It doesn’t even have to be quite factual. The person asking almost certainly doesn’t really care about the details, they’re just trying to connect with you, so maybe have some fun with it. Hint that you have a secret identity as a superhero who fights the misuse of apostrophes or em-dashes, or that you spend all your spare time painting minatures models of slime molds.
Where this approach falls apart is where the argument they’re making is convincing enough that it might appear legitimate to a less informed reader than you. The reader may not engage with the comment, but, if there’s no counter-argument, instead go away believing it may have some validity.
Obviously thus doesn’t apply to the more blatant forms of trolling, but even that distinction can be blurry.

3·1 month agoThey couldn’t come close to dealing with thousands of drones. You can do a rough calculation for the number needed to overwhelm a laser by considering the speed they fly at (200mph seem to be a middle of the pack number for longer range attack drones) and the length of time it takes for the laser to aim and cause the drone to fail (in the order of 5 seconds or so from demo videos IIRC). In that 5 seconds, the drone will have travelled around a quarter of a mile. So for every mile of range the laser has, it can only fend off around 4 drones. Any more than that would have to be dealt with by the CIWS. So, even given a 10 mile effective range, and say three lasers, a ship would be overwhelmed by a fleet of around 120 drones. Round that up to 150 or so, and you’re scoring direct hits on it.
Time flies like an arrow.
Fruit flies like a banana.
Whilst for some it might just be the inertia of “I increase the rent every year”, for many it will be a careful calculation, assuming that staying in the same place has an increasing value to you over time. It also helps with the overall dropping rents “problem” by helping to increase the average, and encourage other landlords to do the same.
You can get screw removing bits, which are basically that.
Once this rolls out, the apps stop working. Google have said there’ll be a process you can go through to allow other apps on your phone, but it doesn’t seem to be available yet. Presumably you’ll need to go through this if you want to use f-droid after the change too.

7·2 months agoI pity you if your university experience was genuinely that poor. A good university encourages deeper thought than that, and surrounds you with people with a similar interest in your subject, and more people who are passionate about other subjects. A sane country then ensures you don’t end up in crippling debt to attend by covering part or all of the cost, and ensuring any debtvus handled fairly.
I am clearly no diggity-ologist as I had not even considered the temperature of the diggity. I shall continue my studies in the hope that I too can become wise in the ways of Diggity.
Thank you for your wise words regarding the correct amount of diggity. I shall endeavour to always have the correct amount of diggity in future.
Wait, wait, I’m still confused. Is diggity a good thing or not? Should I be aiming for an overwelming surplus of it, and if I should, is it really surplus, or should I be trying to expunge it from my life entirely?
Walnut bread is pretty great too.
