  • He did not know he was raping Nikki because there were two Nikki’s sharing the same body, and the one actively controlling the body consented.

Consenting while being incapable of consenting is still rape. If you have sex with someone that is drunk/high/intoxicated, and they say yes while under an influence, that is not consent. Having sex requires continual and ongoing consent, or else it is absolutely rape. In this case, Bear knows the wish has influenced her.

The date scene is only the 2nd moment she shows of any odd behavior, and that behavior is still relatively mild and within the realm of normal humans being human. The horror lies in the dramatic irony that we, the audience, know that is not the real Nikki while Bear does not.

Bear definitely knows the wish worked at this point. But, let’s pretend he didn’t: She is acting weird, beyond what would be considered normal, and he absolutely is exploiting her weird behavior to have sex with her. That is still not consent.

To repeat - the horror lies in the dramatic irony that we, the audience, know that is not the real Nikki while Bear does not.

Goddamn, you’d look like a real fucking moron if the director flat out stated that Bear definitely knew that Nikki was acting weird as a result of his wish.

Oh look! I found this quote from the director on the floor, it also says here that you’re a dumbass?

When he asks her do you love me more than anyone in the world, that’s very obviously the exact verbiage of what he said, ‘I wish she loved me more than anyone in the world.’ So that was the confirmation that he needed that this is 100% the result of the wish. And I think he’s in denial. I don’t think he wants to believe that that’s the truth. I think it’s a lot easier for him to just believe that she really does like him, but clearly this is not making sense, for her to just all of a sudden be obsessed with him like this.

So, like, he even knows he’s raping her. He can be in denial, but being in denial requires you to know the truth and pretend it’s not true. Bear is a rapist, and he knows it. And he does not show remorse for it. Btw, took me two seconds to google that.

But, the pièce de résistance is that when she says to kill her, he just asks if being with him is so bad. That’s fucked up villainous shit. That leaves no room for him to be anything else. He’s the villain.

The video that I was shown was pretty clear that he didn’t do anything other than look at his dog weirdly because she fucking yelped for no apparent reason. That’s pretty standard for dogs. Sometimes they hurt themselves. And they only defense they have is that a good dog owner would’ve rushed over to her and done something yadda yadda yadda. Same shit happens to children, and I wouldn’t blame a parent for looking at their child after they said ouch to make sure they were okay, and when they look like they’re okay, continuing with what they’re doing.

It was such a nontroversy it took three months after it happened for people to even think it happened, and this hitpiece was pushed by the dumbest fucking morons around. I’m still baffled that people think he shocked his dog. Like… That’s shit-for-brains level of thought. They’ll send the clip to you and you just look at how the dog moves and it’s just so obvious the dog hurting herself.

  • I did not think people like you actually existed, but here we are…

When Nikki says she’s writing a love story, Bear replies, “What? A romance novel?” She says, explicitly, that there is a distinct difference. The director is saying to Bear–to people like YOU–that Bear does not understand what love is. He assumes that love and romance are the same thing, and that’s kinda the point. He thinks he loves Nikki, but he doesn’t.

The watching him sleep angle is insane, too. She is watching him sleep because Wish Nikki does not like her dreams. It’s heavily implied that Nikki has some limited control over Wish Nikki throughout the fucking film, and this is another one of those cases. She doesn’t like her dreams because the real Nikki has more control there.

When Bear dies at the end of the movie, why the fuck does Nikki immediately shove Bear’s body onto the fucking floor once she’s free and begin sobbing? Not really a thing you do to people you are supposed to see as a hero. I would argue that she understands that Bear was a fucking monster who raped her, which is also not a heroic thing to do, but maybe I just understand the movie better than you do. Just kidding, the director who made the fucking movie has pointed out repeatedly that Bear is the villain in interviews. So have the fucking actors.

So, maybe you think you know the movie better than the director and actors, but I would argue that part of what makes Bear such a compelling villain is that a lot of men see some portion of themselves in Bear, and the more you see of yourself in Bear, the harder it is to rationalize that he is the villain. He doesn’t start off as a monster. His wish isn’t intended to harm Nikki at the beginning. But, his complicity in harming Nikki throughout the film makes him the villain. The fact that he rapes her and he does not show any sort of remorse for that is just… So fucking obvious that he is the villain that it should really make you think about your own capacity for remorse.

  • I don’t know which movie you watched, but you’re just fucking wrong.

I’m not going to debate your whole post, but just imagine that it’s as wrong as everything else I point out, and we can move on.

He stops when he hears her open the box, not knowing what she is going to wish for, presumably because he wants to stop her.

Insanely wrong, like didn’t-watch-the-same-movie wrong. It is heavily implied that she wished for Bear to feel the same way. His face changes to the lovestruck face, he stops what he’s doing, and they start to act lovey dovey. Combine that with and earlier statement where she says that he doesn’t feel the same way about her as she does about him, and the obvious answer is that she did the same to him.

But that’s kid stuff. Do you seriously believe Bear did not rape Nikki, or are you suggesting that he didn’t know he was raping Nikki?

Because the implications throughout the movie is that Nikki is getting pieces of herself past Wish-Nikki. When Bear finds out that Nikki’s dad doesn’t have cancer, and he knows something is definitely fucking wrong with Nikki, the smash cut to him raping her is supposed to clue you in that he doesn’t care. She is absolutely messed up, and she doesn’t have any real ability to consent regardless of if she is possessed by a wish or if she is on drugs or if she is having a manic episode, so any sex he has would 100% be rape. I get that that’s a hard thing to learn, but that’s how it is, and debating that makes you an incel because that is what incels would do. I don’t make the rules on that last part.

It is weird you think he cares about her because he brings her to the hospital when there is the long pause where he zones the fuck out while people are yelling at him to bring her to a hospital after she smashes herself in the face with a brick after telling everyone her poem about incest (ya know, because she thinks of Bear like a brother.)

Bear is the villain of the movie. Just because he doesn’t seem like the villain at first doesn’t mean he is a good guy. He makes many, many awful decisions that firmly make him the monster. In the opening scene, he doesn’t say a single thing about who Nikki is for why he likes her. He only says things about himself. He says she makes him feel good, that she was there for him. But he doesn’t say anything about her that doesn’t involve him. Because he doesn’t love her.

  • There’s a lot to disagree with here.

Ian is NOT the most malicious person in the movie because Bear literally rapes Nikki repeatedly. That isn’t to say Ian is a good person, just that there is definitely a worse person in the movie.

Bear does NOT end his own life on purpose at the end of the movie, either. Bear tries to throw up the medicine to save himself and is only stopped because Wish-Nikki makes her own wish that inadvertently stops him.

Hell, the lesson of the movie isn’t even to not wish for love! He could have wished for love! The point is that Bear never actually loved Nikki. Every scene reinforces that he doesn’t actually care about her, that he doesn’t really know anything about her. He doesn’t even care that the Nikki inside of Wish-Nikki is being tormented. He tries everything to make Nikki into the person he wants instead of freeing her. He only cares about himself, and it isn’t even until Wish-Nikki starts literally killing people that he even bothers to actually try to undo his wish.

  • It’s NOT a monkey’s paw, though. If anything it is maybe a deconstruction of a monkey’s paw trope.

See, the One Wish Willow does not manipulate your wish to give you something you didn’t ask for, nor does it backlash. Bear wished for a selfish wish. There were a ton of people throughout the film that wished for things and got exactly what they wished for. Heck, Bear’s friend gets a billion dollars.

Like, I get that Bear’s wish is corrupted, but he could’ve wished to be someone that Nikki liked. He could’ve wished to be better at talking to girls. He could’ve wished to be less cowardly. Those are less selfish versions of the same wish.

It wasn’t the act of wishing that ruined his wish, but that he used his wish to manipulate someone else. He was the reason his wish was ruined.

  • The only thing the company does is put their name on it. They do not write it off their taxes because they can’t. That’s a stupid myth that stupid people stupidly spout and then gets spouted again, and I have to spend time explaining why it’s stupid.

Also, if you’re offended by my tone, I dunno, go outside for a bit. Sorry it fucking bugs you. People die every day, and I’m supposed to be happy or something? Fuck on outta here!

Like, if you want to claim stupid tax write offs, buy art, let it “increase in value”, and donate it! Way easier, way more legal, way seedier. There, you got your tax scam. But call it right.

  • This is wrong, and it’s wrong for obvious fucking reasons. Like Accounting 101 reasons. Like, go to prison for fraud reasons.

Let’s say you own a business. You make sales and you partnered with a nonprofit for donations. You ask your customers to donate to that charity.

When you take that money, you set it aside. It does not belong to your company, specifically because you wouldn’t want to inflate your profits or offset your losses with money you don’t have. If your company loses money and you took this money, then you wouldn’t even be able to write off the full amount you took because you wouldn’t have any taxable income.

So, since this money isn’t yours, when you donate it, you do not write it off your company’s profits. Because it didn’t come from the company’s money because you don’t want that to touch your profits. If you do write that off, that’s a little something financial experts like to call fraud.

But, let’s pretend you did take it, and counted it in your profits because you like to be stupid and risky. When you donate that money, you are writing off the portion of your profits that would have been added. So, even if you did donate that money yourself to write-off, you already took it as profits.

This isn’t even a US thing. This shit wouldn’t be legal anywhere. If it was legal, then they could donation roulette to continuously donate the same dollar over and over to write off all of their taxable income, and, honestly, it would be easier to just buy art. Art is the real fucking tax scam.
